Course Expectations

PARTICIPATION

You are expected to participate in class discussions and critiques and to work on your photo projects during class time. You will receive a daily participation grade that will be worth 10% of your final grade. A zero will be given to students who refuse to participate, a 60% will be given to students who need to be redirected once, and a 100% will be given to students who are actively engaged in their work.

The computers may only be used for the purpose of this course. Do not work on assignments for other classes or spend class time surfing the internet. The first offense will result in a call home, a teacher detention and a zero for the day. The second offense will result in an extended office detention. The third offense will result in an official write-up, the loss of computer privileges, and three extended office detentions.

COMMUNITY

It is expected that you are respectful of your classmates. Our classroom must be a safe and welcoming space for all students. Bullying of any kind including racist, homophobic, and sexist comments will not be tolerated. The first offense will result in a call home, an official write-up and extended office detention. Additional offenses will be dealt with by the main office.

CONDUCT

The policies set forth in the student handbook will be strictly enforced in this classroom. All first offenses will result in a teacher detention and you will receive a 0% for your daily participation grade. All consequent offenses will be dealt with as outlined in the student handbook.

– No use of electronic devices is permitted unless given the express permission of the teacher. If your device is seen it will be confiscated and you will receive an extended office detention.

– No food or drinks in the computer lab. Please do not come in with coffee or food. If you decide to disregard this rule you will force my hand and I will dispose of your food and drink.

– Students may not visit the cafeteria during class.

– Do not turn your computer monitors on until the teacher has given you permission.

– Do not leave your seats to line up at the door until the bell rings.

– Shut your computer monitors off at the end of class.

– You must use headphones if you listen to your own music during class.

– Do not talk while I am speaking. It is rude and distracting. If you continuously interrupt me you will be asked to leave the room and will receive a zero for your daily participation grade.

EQUIPMENT

If any photo equipment is broken or lost while in your possession you must pay to replace it. This will result in an official obligation form. Students are not able to graduate until their obligations are fulfilled.

If you borrow equipment and fail to return it on time you will be written up and receive an extended office detention and a 0% for participation each day the equipment is late.

Photographs of underage drinking, drugs, violence, or nudity will not be tolerated and will be dealt with by the main office.

You will lose 10 points each day your project is late, unless you are absent. If you are in class all week there is no excuse for your work to be late.

HOMEWORK

The majority of your photos will be taken outside of the classroom. If you do not come to class prepared when new images are due you will receive a 0% for your daily participation grade. If you use your personal camera or phone to take photos and leave your USB cord at home, and are unable to upload your photos, you will receive a 0% for participation.
